The state of moviegoing and blockbuster cinema is in total disarray as superherodom takes over and everything else steps down to streaming platforms but, man oh man, how nice it is to see Michael Bay back in full form. (No offense to Transformers.) The bro who gifted us Bad Boys and The Rock returns this February with the new ’90s-Brukheimer-y action thriller Ambulance. Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II star, and the first trailer maximizes their charisma. Also cars blow up.

Here’s the full synopsis:

Decorated veteran Will Sharp (Abdul-Mateen II), desperate for money to cover his wife’s medical bills, asks for help from the one person he knows he shouldn’t—his adoptive brother Danny (Gyllenhaal). A charismatic career criminal, Danny instead offers him a score: the biggest bank heist in Los Angeles history: $32 million. With his wife’s survival on the line, Will can’t say no.

But when their getaway goes spectacularly wrong, the desperate brothers hijack an ambulance with a wounded cop clinging to life and ace EMT Cam Thompson (Baby Driver’s Eiza González) onboard. In a high-speed pursuit that never stops, Will and Danny must evade a massive, city-wide law enforcement response, keep their hostages alive, and somehow try not to kill each other, all while executing the most insane escape L.A. has ever seen.

Michael Bay does Heat. Michael Bay does Heat!! OK, technically Micheal Bay does the 2005 Danish film Ambulancen, as the screenplay Chris Fedak (Prodigal Son, Chuck) is a low-key remake, but, c’mon, Michael Bay does Heat.

Ambulance hits the big screens, where shots of bank heists, helicopter chases, and Gyllenhaal’s bravado should play especially well, on Feb. 18.
