Daniel Dae Kim has been cast in Netflix’s upcoming live-action adaptation of the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The Lost actor will play Fire Lord Ozai, the leader of the ruthless Fire Nation and father of fan-favorite character Prince Zuko.

Kim is best known for his role as Jin Kwon on Lost, but he was also in 24 and Netflix’s Stowaway. He has done a variety of voice work in animated series, including in other parts of the Avatar Universe. Kim voiced General Fong in one episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Hiroshi Sato in several episodes of its spinoff series, Legend of Korra.

The showrunner and head writer of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar is Albert Kim (Nikita), and the series is executive produced by Dan Lin (The Lego Movie), Lindsey Liberatore (Walker), and Michael Goi (American Horror Story), who will also direct some episodes of the series. Kim will star in the series, alongside Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Zuko. The original series’ creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, were originally involved with the new live-action version, but departed the project in August.

There’s no official release date yet for the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender, but it could come as early as 2022.
