What’s on in South Canterbury: October 15-17

FRIDAY:

Badminton social: 7pm at Sir Basil Arthur Park, Washdyke. Aorangi Badminton social club’s fun social night with a magic show for the children and a barbecue as well as a few badminton games.

SATURDAY:

Motor racing: 9am-5pm at Levels Raceway. Spring Endurance Event, round 2, Carters Tyres Service South Island Endurance Series presented by Michelin Motorsport with the best race cars in the country competing in three and one hour races. Entry is $15 for adults and free for children under 16 accompanied by an adult.

Church history: Leaving at 12pm from Life Church Morgans Rd, Timaru. Rural Geraldine Anglican Church Car Safari. Learn about the history of various churches and conclude with afternoon tea, for this Bible Society fundraiser. Minimum $5 per person.

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

Extravaganza Fair: 9am-6pm today and Sunday at the bottom of the Port Loop, Caroline Bay.

SUNDAY:

Seafarers’ Service: Procession at 9.30am on Perth and Sophia streets, church service at 10am at St Mary’s Church, Timaru. Commemorating the sailors throughout history and Trafalgar Day – when the Royal Navy won against the French and Spanish fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.​

ONGOING:

Irises: 1pm-4pm behind Country Crafts in Makikihi, Saturday, October 23, 25, and 31. Iris Garden open days, for viewing and purchasing.

Geraldine Farmers Market: 9am-12.30pm Saturdays St Mary’s Church carpark, Talbot St.

Temuka Community Market: 10am-1pm on Saturdays in the Temuka Town Square.

Timaru Artisan Farmers Market: 9am-12.30pm on Saturdays, 2 George St.

Waimate Community Market: 9am-12pm on Saturdays at Seddon Sq in Waimate.

Pleasant Point Farmers Market: 10am-1.30pm every third Sunday of the month.

York Street Gallery of Fine Art: Open Fridays and Saturdays, 11am-3pm and by appointment at 21 York St, Timaru. Takapō/Tekapo artist Rosemary Campbell’s exhibition of her latest landscapes, abstracts and still life has been extended until October 30.

Aigantighe Art Gallery: 12pm-4pm weekends and 10am-4pm weekdays, closed on Mondays. Two exhibitions by South Canterbury Pottery Group, titled The Alchemists, and more than 70 handworks by Aoraki Embroiderers’ Guild until October 18.
